More than half the world’s population lives along coasts and the rivers that feed them, including 11 of the 15 largest cities, and even more people depend on coastal resources. These areas are increasingly experiencing the effects of recurrent flooding and severe storms. At the same time, land use in vast watersheds like the Chesapeake Bay affect water quality, fisheries, and ecosystem health. Faculty at UVA have long been leaders in coastal studies and are developing innovative solutions to enhance resilience and sustainability to environmental change. Join UVA faculty as they provide insight into the collaborative teams that are designing innovative strategies that integrate environmental sciences, engineering, design, and community engagement to support evidence-based decisions and policies to anticipate and prepare for coastal challenges now and in the future.
